Where our data comes from

REKALLD republishes recall information from public U.S. federal sources. We are not affiliated with these agencies.

NHTSA

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration publishes safety recall campaigns for vehicles, tires, car seats, and motorcycles. We use NHTSA’s recall and VIN-decoding data to match vehicles by their manufacturer, model, and model year.

CPSC

The Consumer Product Safety Commission publishes recalls for consumer products — appliances, tools, juvenile products, furniture, and electronics. We use CPSC’s recall corpus to match products by brand, model, and UPC.

How we handle it

• Agency hazard, consequence, and remedy text is shown verbatim, with the campaign number and a link to the source. We never paraphrase a safety notice.
• We store the original agency payload untouched, so a normalization error can always be traced back to what the agency actually published.
• A blank field in an agency record means “not submitted” — we do not render it as “none” or “false.”
• Every count we report is a floor, not a guarantee of completeness. The corpus can be incomplete, delayed, or superseded.
