Where our data comes from

REKALLD republishes recall information from public U.S. federal sources. REKALLD does not represent any government entity and is not affiliated with these agencies.

NHTSA

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration publishes safety recall campaigns for motor vehicles. We use NHTSA’s recall and VIN-decoding data to match vehicles by their manufacturer, model, and model year.

CPSC

The Consumer Product Safety Commission publishes recalls for consumer products — appliances, tools, juvenile products, furniture, and electronics. We use CPSC’s recall corpus to match products by brand, model, and UPC.

FDA

The Food and Drug Administration publishes enforcement reports for recalled food. We use the openFDA food enforcement corpus — the recall classification, the recalling firm, the product description and code information, and the agency’s stated reason for the recall — to match food items by brand and UPC where the agency supplies them. We do not ingest FDA drug, device, or cosmetic recalls.

USDA FSIS

The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service publishes recalls and public health alerts for meat, poultry, and egg products. We use the FSIS recall corpus — the classification, the establishment, the product items, the affected states, and the agency’s stated reason for the recall — to match food items by brand and product description.

How we handle it

  • Agency hazard, consequence, and remedy text is shown verbatim, with the campaign number and a link to the source. We never paraphrase a safety notice.
  • We store the original agency payload untouched, so a normalization error can always be traced back to what the agency actually published.
  • A blank field in an agency record means “not submitted” — we do not render it as “none” or “false.”
  • Every count we report is a floor, not a guarantee of completeness. The corpus can be incomplete, delayed, or superseded.
